The new carnival year has started! The Committee held its first 2012 meeting recently in the Grey Mare - the date and venue for the next meeting will be posted here shortly.
The carnival for 2012 is on Saturday July 14th, although there's no planned link to Bastille Day (perhaps there should be?). Book the date in your diary now!

New Mills Court of Queens & Carnival Parade 2012
The New Mills court of queens would like to invite you to their carnival parade on Saturday June 23rd 2012 starting at the top of Meal Street at 1pm (with crowning taking place earlier at 11.20am).

Melandra Fort open day
GLAS (Glossopdale and Longendale Archaeological Society) have organised a Melandra Roadshow - an open day on the Roman fort at Melandra on April 14th at the Geoffrey Allen Community Centre, Winster Mews, Gamesley, 10AM - 4 PM. Archaeologists will be present to show the latest survey results, and there will be finds for handling, finds identification, archive films and photos and childrens' activities. Refreshments will be available.

The Rec changes status
Apparently the Rec is now officially a Village Green. This change was made to ensure its preservation.
