Carnival 2012 - on the rec

In alphabetical order, here are some of the fun things you're likely to find on the Rec on the day! If your stall has been omitted, please let us know and we'll do our best to rectify this.

Arnfield brass band

The brass band will be accompanying the procession, and then playing on the Rec on the day.

The bar

The bar will be ready to serve ice-cold beers (for as long as the generator holds out ...) to hot and tired carnival goers.

Bouncy castles and fairground rides

For the children there should be a variety of bouncy castles and fairground rides on the Rec on the day - and at reasonable prices too.

Corn dollies

Free personal tuition in the traditional Derbyshire skill of CORN DOLLY MAKING. Ever wondered how to make a corn dolly? Under the skilled instruction of Barbara Bohan, you can learn how to make a corn dolly, and even take your Dolly home with you!

Circus skills

Free family Circus Skills workshop under the skilled hands of the DIABOLOS CIRCUS company. Ever wanted to learn how to juggle, breathe fire or walk a tightrope (well, at least one of these)? Well, come and learn!

Crowning of the carnival queen

The carnival queen will take part in the parade to the Rec, and be crowned in the afternoon.

Dynamite dance

Dancers from Dynamite Dance Studio in Glossop will once more be strutting their stuff during the day.

The fell races

The senior and junior fell races will depart from the Rec, returning between 5 and 50 sweaty minutes later, depending on the level and age category.

The owl man

The owl man will be exhibiting owls and birds of prey, and for a small fee children will be able to hold the birds on their outstretched arms.

The scouts' burger tent

As ever, those resourceful scouts will be barbecuing burgers for hungry people on the day.

Steel band

The steel band should be sharing a tent with the Arnfield brass band, and providing Carribean style music to liven the day.

The tea tent

The ever-popular tea tent will be serving customers home-made cakes, pies and pastries on the day, together with hot and cold drinks.

The tug of war

The tug-of-war takes place in the middle of the Rec some time in the afternoon.
